1st Lieutenant Kyle Holsey, son of Dale Holsey (Commandant Wichita Detachment MCL), received his promotion to Captain, USMC on July 1, 2011. (Kyle is also a member of the Wichita Detachment of the  MCL.) Kyle is learning to fly the AV-8B Harrier at MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina. Currently he is TAD to MCAS Yuma, Arizona attending weapons training. Kyle will be returning to Cherry Point later in August to continue his flight training in Air to Air combat. After being certified in the Harrier, he will be placed into a pilot pool to be a replacement with one of five (5) squadrons stationed at MCAS Cherry Point. Once chosen he will train with the new squadron prior to any deployment. Captain Holsey is a 2007 graduate of Wichita State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering. Kyle began his marine training entering the PLC Program and attending Basic Training at MCRD San Diego 2005. He was then assigned to the reserve center at Oklahoma City continuing his education to complete his college studies. He attended OCS in 2006, then TBS 2007 at Quantico, Virginia. Kyle went on to his flight training at Pensacola and was first in his class at basic flight. He attended advanced training in jets at Meridian, Mississippi where he was named “Top Gun” of his class with 17 air to air victories (surpassing the previous record of 12). Captain Holsey and wife Kelsi currently reside in New Bern, North Carolina.
